Part of building relationships within a classroom starts with the environment. Four walls is a start... some chairs, okay... tables, sure... but that’s not enough. Today’s learners need flexibility and choice. I want to provide flexible seating options for my learners to promote choice, comfort, and a sense of self direction in our environment. Flexible seating has proven to increase student attention and motivation. It simultaneously gives students a feeling of control in an environment that by design is directed rigidly by adults. Please help make this vision of flexibility and choice for my students a reality. Children who feel safe & respected in their enviornment develop a mindset open to learning and positive engagement. Please help me create an empowering learning environment as a first step to fostering a safe, respectful, and responsive classroom for my first grade students.
