During this pandemic the students have had limited opportunity to read books and discuss them together. This has hindered them academically and socially. We used to have novel studies and be able to discuss narrative elements as a class. The novels will help my students maintain their reading fluency and comprehension skills over the summer. It will also help the students to feel connected with their peers as they discuss their particular group's book. Novel studies help students in both reading and writing. The reading of good literature helps to provide a good model for their future writing assignments. This is important for students moving into fourth grade.
