I strive to make my classroom library an inviting place my kids enjoy spending time in. These books will be used along with materials I will purchase on Teachers Pay Teachers to switch my classroom from a scripted literacy program to Literacy Workshops. After attending a reading conference earlier this year I began working with workshops in my classroom. I truly believe my young readers need this method to become the best readers they can be. The idea is that we meet the students where they are while providing the resources needed to build the solid foundations they need to be successful in years to come. Workshops include whole group instruction, teacher lead small groups, and independent reading and writing time every day! I currently have the outline for daily lessons, whole group read alouds, guided reading groups, phonics, and writing workshops. I am almost there! I need to expand my library some, and purchase the last few resources needed for reading comprehension and sight word work. These resources will allow me to be better able to provide students with materials on their level and materials that peak their interest. Both are so important for young readers to practice and build their reading and writing skills and confidence.
