This year my students have had to do a great deal of independent learning. My virtual students meet via Zoom three times a week and then work on their own until we meet again. Hybrid students attend classes on campus every other day to accommodate social distancing and then they too work independently at home on alternate days.
A subscription to Study.com would give me access to an overwhelming number of resources to help my students work not just independently but effectively. Resources such as videos, quizzes, and interactive games could provide my students an introduction to new content or a review of already learned concepts. The availability of such resources would promote student-centered learning that occurs at each child's own pace. In turn, students are more likely to own the knowledge they acquire while working alone.
Likewise, the time my students and I have face to face would become more meaningful as well. Students would be able to ask questions and receive feedback immediately rather than waiting to see me again. This would lead to increased engagement and the chance to explore new topics on a deeper level. I would be able to spend more time with individual students and more effectively evaluate mastery of grade-level standards.
I greatly admire the tenacity and flexibility my students have shown despite the adversities they have faced during this time. I feel it is important to do all I can to inspire continued confidence in their attempts to achieve their academic goals during this school year.
I believe the tools included with this subscription to Study.com will be instrumental in helping me do this.
