A calming corner will help my ASD students in so many ways! With ASD comes sensory processing issues. Sometimes when my students get stressed out from auditory or visual stimuli, they need a calming place to go to help them regulate their body and de-sensitize to being overstimulated. Other times when students with ASD are frustrated and engage in behaviors, to harm themselves or others, they need a calming place to go to regulate their emotions and to be safe. I want to make a calm down corner for my students to help them regulate all their senses, emotions, and stressors while keeping them safe and teaching them that breaks are ok.
