Establishing student relationships is important when taking over a first-grade classroom midyear. My students showed me grace and patience as I started teaching for the first time. As a new teacher, I never imagined that I would find myself remotely teaching from home. Once again my students are embracing this new journey with grace and patience as we embark a new way of learning. With the purchase of a color printer and accessories, I can mail my students personal mementos like postcards and photos to continue the relationships that we built in the classroom. As my students come from low-income families that face a multitude of hardships day-to-day, I can't imagine what emotions my students are feeling during this time, and I want to assure them that I am still here for them, even at a distance.
