Every summer, we invite our incoming sixth graders to participate in a STEM camp to get them excited about STEM and coming to our school. The recent COVID-19 pandemic is severely impacting everything in our students' lives, including these types of invaluable experiences. We are converting our STEM camp into a virtual experience, but just as fun and engaging. I would like to put together daily STEM challenges the students can complete at home virtually. This is our students' first opportunity to engage in STEM challenges and we hope to spark their interest in our health science program. I never thought I would have to convert this camp into a virtual experience but I am trying to make the most of it. All students should get the same opportunity to participate in this once in a life time experience. In order to ensure that, knowing that 99% of our students are economically disadvantaged, I would love to provide each upcoming sixth grader with a tablet to complete their challenges and interact with their peers and mentors. The tablet will then be used throughout the school year as we move to a blended learning format in our "new normal". Please help me make STEM learning accessible, exciting, and equitable for all of my students!
