I am the Librarian at a k-5 title 1 school. Most of our students come from low socially economic backgrounds. English is their second language. We are in the epicenter of the Coronavirus (Jackson Height/Elmhurt) our students and families have been disproportionately affected. The pain and worry of loss, lack of food and undocumentation greatly way on this community. Students learn to by seeing and hearing others. Connecting the words with a visual will help them make connections to the stories and build their vocabulary helping to make them stronger readers. Most of all my hope is remote story book reading will provide an escape into a world of wonder and awe. Creating a “stage” with a fun nurturing environment where stories come alive for all students. PS Even now my 5 th graders could use a good story.
