One of the biggest challenges of teaching middle school is keeping all students engaged for the entirety of the class. Teachers are often plagued with the early finishers who can become distractions when given down time. I am constantly looking for ways to keep students' brains activated for the entire duration of my 83 minute class. Keeping critical thinking skills fine-tuned is essential in the learning process. I have found that one of the biggest obstacles I see with middle school students is getting them to use their brains! I am hoping that giving them opportunity to learn through hands games and activities will assist me in this endeavor. The items I am hoping to get for my classroom will give students challenging options of things to think about when they are given extra time in class. Trying to get students to do additional work outside of the requirements is a constant struggle. Therefore, allowing them to play a game that requires them to use their critical thinking skills is the perfect option. While some students prefer to read, I have found that a lot of them would choose to do something more hands on. These activities are something kids will look forward to doing. They will not look at these as a have to assignment, but a get to assignment.
