Many of the books I chose were some of the most popular among 2nd graders in the school I will be teaching at in the fall! My future colleagues have described the joy their students found in reading stories that they were interested in, as this motivated them to read even more. I can envision my students reading Junie B. Jones during independent reading time, as well as during small group guided reading. These books can be even be used in whole class reading, as I create stations centered around the plot of these stories. Not only will my students benefit from having books to read, but will also see their value reflected in the quality and diverse books provided. My future superstars will be able to go on adventures, and explore new realities all within the classroom! In addition to reading books of interests many of my chosen books align with second grade science standards. We will be studying animals and habitats, as well as historic events, which is highlighted in the "I survived" and "Who would win" books.
