Many of our students have been stuck at home for too long and have been only doing what is of interest to them, little of which involves learning. They come to school and it isn't exciting or appealing. They don't see how what they are doing in school can really make a difference in their lives or their futures.
Forensics career exploration in a hand-on way could be the hook to get them back in school and excited about learning. We have done some online research about various careers, but the students find that work to be boring. We will use the Crime Scene Lab Activity kit to launch our study of forensics. After that, each of my 4 classes will be able to participate in other projects as they try to solve murders and various other crimes.
I really liked how some of the kits will allow for a trial to happen. I think that will add another layer of career exploration as the students get to practice arguing in a way that has meaning and defending another side using the evidence that they discover.
