These multicultural books will increase their love for reading and writing. All the students that come to my intervention class enjoyed books that they can relate to or have pictures that look like them. I've noticed that they are more interested in writing about the book, analyzing the characters, and using their critical thinking skills. In addition, it will also expose them to diverse cultures and have a better understanding of working with others. The best way to increase reading scores is by also including the parents in the process. The majority of the parents only speak Spanish and the use of bilingual books will allow the students to read to the parent while the parents read in Spanish. My students in K-6 are showing tremendous interest in reading more books at home. Having access to these books will increase the reading scores and bridge the reading gap that we have in our low-income schools.
