My students have been working hard on their work packets from school, and have mostly been focusing on their core subjects. As their music teacher, I want to be able to share music and the incredible stories of amazing people with them in order to give them hope during this stressful time! We do not have an established music curriculum, and I want to gather as many inclusive and inspirational stories as I can to share our incredible history in a way my students can feel connected. My learners can greatly benefit from having these books to close the gaps connecting cultural history and music. As assignments involving Google Classroom, YouTube, or other electronic sources are incredibly difficult for many students to utilize due to limited resources, physical books such as these will help develop a foundation from where I can build their future education off of. Once we return to school, all of my students will benefit from having a solid-based curriculum to pull relevant cultural and historical information from in a way that allows them to feel connected and engaged. This project will provide the educational resources to allow more students to feel included in what they're learning, build a curriculum of relevant reading material, and kickstart conversations and ideas for social-emotional learning!
