My students are great with computations. In this ever changing digital world, I want my students to understand what technology can do mathematically. Calculators are so much more than basic mathematical operations. The calculator can be a wonderful tool in the math classroom, if used in an appropriate setting and in an appropriate way. Calculator use can promote the higher-order thinking and reasoning needed for problem solving in our information- and technology-based society. Students need to practice using available technologies and becoming more comfortable with the different capabilities of a scientific calculator.
