Students are given a kit that contains a circuit board, LEDs, capacitors, resistors, integrated circuits and a battery. They have learned in the classroom what each of the components does and now need to place them correctly on the circuit board and solder them so that the lights work correctly. Students who complete the project and do not have working lights, need to analyze their circuit board and de-solder the component that needs to be fixed. This activity validates their learning, as well as gives students practice soldering, an important skill for electrical engineers that many students have not yet learned.
