Middle school students naturally need to be able to move about more freely. Asking them to sit in a desk for any length of time is difficult. My students love alternate seating. When given a choice to sit on the rug, more students want it than I can accommodate. These alternative seating choices will empower my students to determine what they need. Students will be able to move about the room more frequently. Having their attention more often leads to greater learning. Our lower-income school isn’t able to provide the choice my students need. Flexible seating will give them that choice. Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.
