First graders are a lively bunch with the desire to help out. With a copier and laminator, I can preserve and make stronger materials that we use to learn, especially high frequency words, card stock pages, games and things like a large student-generated job chart. Each piece holds a name, matched with an important task. The tasks rotate to give opportunities for all to experience. Students gain understanding, and a perspective on how important it is to value, appreciate and contribute to help do the work needed in a classroom. By holding classroom jobs with other students in class, like sharpening pencils, and special colored pencils for art, students see themselves as contributing a valuable service to support each other's learning. They make friends, too, by figuring out together the best way to do the job, and problem solve how to organize their task. We need so many pencils sharpened each and every day. Tools we need help us learn with confidence, express caring for others, and help little ones see themselves as valuable contributors to a smooth running classroom. Thank you for your consideration.
