This project is very close to my heart as I have found in my fifteen years as an educator, becoming a fluid reader supports student understanding across the learning and content areas. My ENL students need the opportunity and materials to further their reading progression, and I would like to provide them with as many outlets at school and home to hone their skills. As studies show, ESL students need extensive support in a reading program that is effective in combining a "systematic phonics instruction with a print-rich environment that provides exposure to appealing reading materials in varied genres." (Cite-ELL Outlook) Obtaining reading materials can prove to be very difficult for many of my students, and I want to take that out of the equation. These tablets will be set up with reading libraries, apps to support vocabulary development, and reading comprehension.
