Throughout the school year, an area of my classroom transforms into a different dramatic play area where students can explore being a zookeeper, camping in the wilderness, building at a construction site, throwing a birthday party, being moms and dads, and much more! To watch a child play is the most inspiring thing. Each day I'm amazed by how my students use their imaginations. The simplest item can become something amazing. As any parent or grandparent has experienced, children are naturally drawn to the kitchen. They want to be involved in pouring, mixing, stirring, baking, and eating! We currently have a very old, small play kitchen that is one L-shaped piece. It is very difficult for multiple students to use the kitchen at the same time, and it's always a very popular place to be! The new dramatic play kitchen furniture I would like to add to my classroom will help students explore through play the magic of the kitchen. The separate pieces will allow the children to be more spread out and the flexibility to use only certain pieces when needed. Because of the current situation caused by COVID-19, funding to education will mostly likely be reduced and the chances of getting new classroom furniture in the next few years will be slim. I appreciate your consideration in funding this project! Thank you! “Children need the freedom and time to play. Play is not a luxury. Play is a necessity." ~Kay Redfield Jamison
