Remote learning has been very difficult for parents, students, and educators alike. As a school-based speech-language pathologist, we focus on naturalistic communication across all school settings, from busing to bathroom trips. Remote learning has presented unique challenges for nonverbal kids who rely on speech-generating apps on ipads to communicate. Clinicians have adapted by shifting to parent-coaching instruction in the family's home environment. Recently, I was awarded two communication apps (LAMP and Proloquo2go) for my nonverbal students. This iPad will allow me to screenshare these apps with parents in real time to demonstrate how to model language for their child throughout the day. It will also help me show parents other app functions such as adding pictures of family members, adding new vocabulary, and modifying layouts. Once we return to school, this ipad will become an assessment tool to test different communication apps for different students.
