I hope to provide diverse, engaging, and contemporary reading experiences for my students by introducing them to more female authors and authors of color. Most of our district-funded texts are written by European and American men, and few have been published after 1970. The books for this project are all dystopian fiction and will be used for literature circles in which students will read and discuss the books in small groups. The goal is to widen their world perspective, introducing them to stories that both reflect their own identities and provide stories about individuals and communities with which they are unfamiliar, while building their literary analysis and writing skills.
