Research shows that students are more invested in the books they are reading when they are capable of making personal connections with the text. Unfortunately, my students, primarily students of color, do not see themselves represented very often in the books we read during class. I hope to disrupt the narrative that my students’ stories are not worth being told by exposing them to a wide variety of culturally responsive literature.
