These picture books will help to provide students with background knowledge for our STEM lessons while also enhancing their developing vocabularies and improving their reading comprehension skills. Reading about historical events such as hurricane Katrina will help students to better understand the impact that severe weather can have on a community. It will also lay a foundation for our hands-on activity on levee building. After reading about the sun in Summer Sun Risin', my students will have the opportunity to explore the effects of sunlight on Earth's surface using a digital infrared thermometer. These are just two examples of the incredible STEM lessons that these books will support.
