The first rule of any job site is "Safety First!" The first few weeks of any wood shop or home building class are crucial to teaching workplace safety skills, which students will take with them into their future careers. We're building the next generation of carpenters, tradesmen, and architects and developing a safety based mindset is essential to a long and successful career. The focus of our program is to simulate the work place as much as possible. Unfortunately the signage and job site cleaning tools in our classroom are not what they will encounter in the workplace. The materials will help students learn to recognize and locate crucial safety items like fire extinguishers, eye wash stations; respect posted signage and floor striping to avoid areas that are unsafe; and always wear their safety gear when working on machinery or from heights. The brooms and trash cans will help us learn job site safety through the removal of trip and slip hazards in the shop, equipment maintenance, and develop a sense of pride and ownership in our program. With your support, our students will use these tools every day in class as we "construct" the next generations of builders together!
