When you reach for a book, you are leaving the world you physically exist in behind and step into a new reality. We make connections and remember more of what we are reading when we see ourselves in the book- when the people of the book-world are similar to people in the real world. A student should have classroom access to books that reflect who they are: their family, their friends, their race, their lives. I believe that students who see themselves in the library will want to discover more- more worlds, more words, more ideas. They become a learner without even knowing it! All because they found themselves in a book. "I went to find Me in the library"- Ray Bradbury.
