My wonderful Speech and Language students come from low income households and struggle with many different issues. Some have speech that is difficult to understand and some are not yet talking at all. Some of my students have trouble making friends, controlling their emotions, and accepting change. Others have difficulty understanding the teacher or finding the right words to communicate with others. Enriching my classroom with books, games, and puzzles will help them develop new vocabulary, better speech, and improved social skills. Students with special needs work hard to improve their communication skills so I want it to be fun and engaging! Speech and language impaired students learn better and faster when they are motivated by sound and color. Children with social thinking problems often open up to flexible thinking through books and visual activities. Younger students who are not yet talking often find motivation in talking puzzles. These materials will help my students find their voices in the academic classroom.
