This book set is part of an overall unit focusing on how point of view can impact the experiences and historical narratives of certain events. By juxtaposing the lives of the two central characters, students see for themselves how a character's point of view can shape the historical narrative of right and wrong. This is an important skill to learn for thinking like historians. This set is also an amazing opportunity for students to not only learn about the experiences of people of color, but also tackle with complex historical questions of justice and power.
