I have noticed that the math topic that seems to be the worst for most students is fractions. They struggle through the unit and a lot of students tend to not understand no matter how many drawn examples you show them or magnetic fraction pieces you put on the board. Studies show students do better when given hands-on manipulatives to use when introducing a new topic. I want my students to each have their own set of fraction tiles to use in class when being taught fractions. In fourth grade, one of the main fraction topics I teach is equivalent fractions (fractions that are equal). These fraction tiles would benefit all my fraction lessons, but this one specifically because they can line the tiles up to see if they are the same length, physically showing the student if they are equal. Having a set of 30 verses having a couple, will be very beneficial so that every student has their own set and can manipulate the pieces and get the full hands-on experience. Thank you for your consideration!
