A lot of our time in the classroom centers around our circle time rug. I feel as though our rug is the common place in our classroom and acts as our meeting place. My students feel safe and feel that they can stretch out and think freely. My students love to look for letters and colors on the carpet as well. As a special education teacher, I value the importance of a good transition piece and believe it or not, our rug is one of our transition spots. When my students here "Carpet time!" they know exactly where to go and know where their specific spots are on the rug. It is placed in a central location in order for my students to know where to go when this quote is said. When we are finished on the rug, they know to stay seated until they are "dismissed" to a center. It feels crazy to think that a piece of material could cause this much routine, but it does. I feel if we did not have a rug, my students would have an unbalanced sense and not know quite where to congregate. We need a new rug as our current rug is simply falling apart. Due to funding, it is hard to purchase these large classroom rugs.
