These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because it will give them a chance to be more engaged in the lesson. For some students writing in pencil and paper, will not help them retain the information needed. Most of the time, students need to physically touch manipulatives and understand what it represents in order to comprehend what is being taught. For example, its difficult for students to understand volume because of all the different formulas that are involved. However, if you show students how shapes relate to one another, they will be able to create connection. One day in class I used a cone and cylinder to show how one third of a cylinder is the same measure as a cone. My students were shocked when they seen how the shapes were related and were able to draw their own conclusions from this demonstration.
