Let's face it, most people say they hate math! They exclaim, "I'm just not good at math" or I'm not a math person". When we hear this, most nod in agreement or understanding like it's no big deal. However, this is a pretty big deal! If someone said, "I can't read. I'm just not good at it", most of us would be shocked and try to help and even intervene. Why then, is it acceptable to hate math and carry an attitude that "I just can't do it"? I intend to change this attitude of thinking in my students by teaching them that everyone can do math. That math is not hard or scary. I will build deep understand of the concepts and show them hands-on ways to visualize and connect to math. With math manipulatives, such as fraction tiles, geometry nets, dice, cards, and spinners, I can help make math visual and tangible while bringing high engagement. Please help me take the fear out of math and support my cause.
