I am a full-time speech-language pathologist contracted by Duval County Public School District through Community Rehab Associates. I provide direct speech and language therapy services to PK-2nd grade students in a Title I school. Due to the COVID-19 health pandemic, I am working from home with limited materials and providing virtual therapy services to the students on my caseload. The materials I am requesting will help me to better serve students with complex communication needs during this challenging and unprecedented time and will continue to be used when normal classes resume. Most of the students I work with have a limited attention span, so high interest, visually-engaging materials are the key to gaining their participation. I am requesting office supplies to provide organization while working from home and books to teach story elements, build vocabulary, and facilitate expressive language development. The magnetic house playset will be used to target spatial concepts, answering questions, using appropriate pronouns, and describing actions. Potato Head will be used to target describing, following directions, requesting, and naming body parts and colors. I plan to use the school bus play set to teach pronouns, prepositions, and sequencing. The ice cream counter will help to elicit language as students participate in role-play and request preferred flavors and toppings. The sticker playsets will facilitate verbal expression skills via requesting desired characters and objects and using spatial concepts to tell where to place them in the picture scene. The whiteboard will be used to support student learning during lessons. Grannies Candies will be used to target goals such as categorization, compare and contrast, using adjectives and verbs, and describing object function. Finally, the colored building blocks will be used to target functional communication skills and core vocabulary (e.g. up, go, want). Thank you for your consideration!
