These materials will be helpful in expanding my student's knowledge of music and how it relates cross-curricularly and cross-culturally. We will use many of the instruments on this list during literacy units to bring our stories to life. For example, for Black History Month, my students will read the story "Rap a Tap Tap" by Leo and Diane Dillon. The story takes the students through the life of Bill Robinson, the best known African-American entertainer in the US for the first half of the 20th century. The students will learn the backstory of jazz and tap music, and will add instruments to the story so they gain a hands-on experience playing the jazz music genre.
