My classroom library is always expanding based on student interests and needs. The first-grade curriculum stresses the importance of non-fiction text and learning about the text features of the books. National Geographic for Kids has a wonderful selection of non-fiction texts that are appropriate for early elementary reading levels. Scholastic Book Clubs also offer an interesting selection of books for early readers of different interests and hobbies. I am blessed with a literacy-rich fiction library for my students; however, I don't have the non-fiction books that my students crave. Having these texts in my classroom would allow my students to have continuous access to non-fiction books. These texts would serve as a great resource to both my current and future students.
