Flexible seating and the instruments to make it possible will encourage students to take charge of their own reading and writing. You are always more productive when you are in a space that you have created and are proud of! Having cushions and dry erase clipboards will help students move from the usual classroom seating and the mindset that accompanies it, into a new workspace with fresh engagement and ideas. To help students maintain confidence and boundaries with the flexible workspace, I will use the book, "What Do You Do With an Idea?" and a classroom doorbell. The book will help promote and encourage ownership of their own creative ideas, while the doorbell will ensure that the positive expectations of the learning space remain consistent into the flexible learning environment.
