We are requesting stacking cups for a way to build friendships, camaraderie, and most important, a way of having fun. I have been showing students speed stacking on You Tube for years. Every time I do, the students get all excited wanting to try it and have competitions with each other. Every time I say "that would be a really cool idea to do as an after school club." Students are always coming and going at a base schools. Friendships and a sense of belonging can be hard for some. For others, a parent maybe deployed to a foreign land, or their home might be a little tough, whatever the reason our students have to right to feel important. Students will use the cups and timers to get faster in stacking cups in different ways. In the beginning students will be practicing stacking cups in a particular order to reduce their own time. Pairs will be stacking cups using only using one hand each to accomplish the same task. Teams would then stacks cups in a relay type of race. All of which teaches, communication, collaboration, good sportsmanship, dexterity, and camaraderie in teams. It's a great physical activity while building on social emotional learning.
