Many of my students do not have any art supplies at home. Being in the art room is a safe and nonjudgmental space but when students go home, that space evaporates. We have a weekly sketchbook assignment and with their own supplies, many of these students will be able to escape in their art! Their skills will improve and they can experiment and explore while drawing, writing and painting. This high school age is a challenging one as they try on many hats and need to discover who they are. I want to give them a vehicle to express themselves.
