Classroom environment is an essential component to student learning. Teachers model organization for students through the everyday functioning and flow of the activities in the classroom. The materials I have requested will play a vital role in encouraging organization and will allow learning opportunities to flow within my classroom. My first graders currently use desks of varying heights with lift top lids. These desks are difficult for students to use and it is often troublesome for students to find the supplies they need, taking unnecessary learning time out of the day. The use of tables and seat sacks will help to minimize this reoccurring disruption. My students are often asked to sit on the floor or come to a location on the floor to complete activities as a class or with small groups, or even read independently. A classroom rug will make this gathering area more comfortable and enjoyable for students.
