Toys are a fantastic and effective way to support language growth. As my students with Autism have difficulty attending to others, I incorporate the use of fun and engaging toys to increase their desire to communicate with me. With the toys purchased through this project, I will be able to teach lots of vocabulary words, such as asking for "help" to turn on the Hexbug Nano or requesting "more" when the wind-up toy stops. When my students are having fun and attending to the activity, they make more communication attempts and more easily learn new vocabulary on their communication devices. By donating to this project, you will ultimately help my non-verbal students increase their language skills and their ability to interact with others through their communication devices.
