By bringing 3D printers to my students I intend to inspire them to combine problem-solving skills with creativity and innovation while enhancing participation across all disciplines. for example, making a model of a human heart, identifying the parts of a cell Science is best learned through interaction and application. When students have hand-on experiences and can take their ideas from their early stages of design to a final 3D model or representation learning is happening, 3D printers are an excellent way to provide my class with more hands-on experiences and increase experiential learning. For example, in the human body lessons, students could create an anatomical brain. This type of activity will not only increase real-world understanding but it also will enhance a student’s spatial intelligence, with such intelligence an important predictor of achievement in STEM subjects.
