LAMP Words for Life is an iPad app that acts as an alternative and augmentative communication system (AAC) for nonverbal students. LAMP was specifically designed to provide a way for students with moderate to severe autism to communicate. LAMP capitalizes on the perceived strengths of students with autism. This includes their increased aptitude for visual learning and their desire for structure. Throughout my practice as an SLP in a special needs school, I have seen firsthand what an amazing tool LAMP is. It has allowed my nonverbal students to make their needs and wants known. This has resulted in higher rates of success both academically and socially. However, I do not currently have consistent access to this app or an iPad for my students. In order to provide the best possible service for my students, I would like to have an iPad, loaded with LAMP, always on hand to utilize with my students.
