Not only is learning to play the soprano recorder super FUN, but it also helps my students learn to read and play music, helps with correct breathing, posture, ear-training, and steady beat. It's a popular instrument that is economical and pretty easy to learn. The students at my school in the younger grade levels look forward to playing the recorder once they reach the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. Playing the soprano recorder in elementary music class not only prepares students with a solid foundation for playing other instruments in the future, but it helps children to turn constructive feedback into positive change. In my music classroom, we use the "Recorder Karate" program, which helps to build necessary skills from beginner to advanced levels.
