Children's picture books are honestly still some of my favorite pieces of literature to read to this day. The thought of having my teachers or parents reading to me as a child still makes me smile! My students always look forward to reading the next 'musical' story in my class, and I am happy to have, thus far, used my own finances to fund my classroom music library of almost 100 children's books based on music. Our school has been, and will continue to explore Social Emotional Learning, and how to incorporate it in all of our lessons and throughout our days. Social-emotional learning (SEL) is the "process of developing the self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills that are vital for school, work, and life success." Through my own professional development this summer, I discovered a fellow music educator who has a list of amazing children's books that encourage reading and listening about SEL in the music classroom. With your help, I hope to buy these books and use them in the next school year. Thank you!
