Social emotional books give students a voice to the everyday thoughts and feelings that they are having about their lives. Students face BIG stressors in life (anxiety, depression, broken families, grief and loss, struggles in social relationships), but don't always know how to verbalize their thoughts and feelings. The lack of coping skills affects students' ability to focus in school or function as well in their peer and family relationships. These social emotional books will help facilitate discussion about life issues students are having as I counsel students individually or in a classroom setting. The series of books by Julia Cook are also great for students to process personal issues in their own timing if they are not comfortable meeting with a counselor face to face.
