School psychologists conduct psychoeducational evaluations to help determine if a student shows evidence of a disability that will warrant special education services. Currently, our district is learning remotely which brings new challenges. While some evaluations can be conducted remotely, the best evaluations are always the ones that can be conducted in person. Face-to-face evaluations allow students to build rapport with their examiner. It also allows the examiner to facilitate a quiet place, free of distractions in which the student can put forth their best effort to demonstrate their true academic skills. Measures such as temperature checks and plexiglass barriers will allow students to be evaluated in a safe environment. These in-person evaluations will yield invaluable information to help understand a student's needs and support their academic growth.
