We open our day with a morning meeting on the carpet, talking about or feelings and sharing about ourselves. When we split into small groups, the carpet and plush seating is a fought-over space to work. Every day during independent reading, different reading groups have the chance to read on the carpet with pillows. My students are on the carpet as much as they are in their seats, but I want to incorporate a new flexible style of seating. I want to have a space where they can stretch their bodies and their brains as they continue to grow academically.
