LEGO bricks are extremely fun to build with for many students. It can be used as a creative play or a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) lesson. Creative play with LEGO bricks is a great way for students to use their imagination. My students will get to choose LEGOs as a creative play for earned activity. Following the visual instructions from LEGO sets helps students' provide a practice and construction of spatial abilities. Defined as - the capacity to understand and remember the spatial relations among objects - spacial abilities are key for accomplishment in these areas of study; mathematics, technology, engineering and chemistry. The larger sets can be used as a goal incentive as well. The sets take longer to build, and it gives the constructors a sense of pride and accomplishment when completed.
