Our school is less than an hour's drive north of Chicago. We have a diverse population of Latino and African American students. We are 75% low-income. The students in this school are marvelous & fantastic! They come ready to learn and happy to be here! Currently, I do not have a classroom library and when teaching reading and writing it is essential for students to have tangible copies of reading materials. I want a multicultural library so that students can see themselves in the stories they read--this will help create an interest and encourage a love for reading. I am hoping to purchase a diverse classroom library that looks just like my students! My students attend a reading and writing class that doesn't have books. We must help them reach their full potential by providing what they need.
