Read alouds create a safe space for students to explore their feelings and share when they might have felt the same way as the characters in the book. By the end of each book, Julia gives strategies on how you could solve the problem in real life. We carry these strategies into our daily routines and vocabularies. Often parents and teachers ask, "Why did you do that," and children are unsure. These books give students the tools to examine their choices and work to be more mindful in the world around them. My students will benefit from fun, engaging guidance lessons, small groups, and individual counseling sessions that combine literature with activities to reinforce essential social skills. As a result, my students will have better classroom skills, friendship skills, communication skills, and coping skills to deal with life issues.
