My co-workers and I are looking for generous donations to include novels in our reading instruction. The Jackie Robinson story would be an excellent learning tool to include in our black history unit Since our school is almost 100% caucasian, this book would enlighten our students to the prejudice and struggles of the black people throughout the years. With the Jackie Robinson story being a non-fictional resource, this would make a great impact on our sixth grade students here at Shakamak. Many of our reluctant readers are involved in sports. Student athletes, especially, will be able to relate to this novel and consequently it will spark an interest in reading.
